Best Songs About Gambling

 by  alterna2

Who knows who’s online to gamble and play casino these days? That’s the beauty of the internet gaming world for celebrities who like to have the odd flutter – or more. They can hide behind an anonymous user name and gamble to their hearts’ content without facing the public scrutiny that they might meet with in a land-based casino.

But maybe some of their lyrics will give them away. Here we’ve rounded up some of the best lines in songs that make mention of gambling.

Arctic Monkeys – The View From the Afternoon

On the Arctic Monkeys’ first album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, the song called The View From the Afternoon shows that the band has probably served their time in front of various slots machines. The lyrics feature these words: “I want to see all of the things that we’ve already seen/I want to see you take the jackpot out the fruit machine/And put it all back in/You’ve got to understand it you can never beat the bandit, no”. In those few lines, they sum up the fact that there’s never any guarantee that you’ll come out on top when casino gaming. Still, that doesn’t mean it’s not fun – especially with the amazing array of games on offer in online casinos.

Motorhead – Ace of Spades

The Ace of Spades is a song that takes us into the mind of a seasoned gambler, whether we’re talking about taking risks with your life or risks at the card table. This classic track about ‘dancing with the devil’ includes the classic line ‘but you can’t really sing about spinning fruit, and the wheels coming down’.

Lupe Fiasco – American Terrorist

Lupe Fiasco also gave casino games a mention in the song American Terrorist, where he included the following lines, “Give black man crack/Glocks to teens/Give red man craps/Slot machines”. This was Lupe’s take on the tribe owned casinos in the USA. This song featured on Fiasco’s album Food and Liquor, released in 2006.

Cat Power – Silver Stallion

An original song by the Highwaymen, Silver Stallion was covered by Cat Power in 2007 on the album Jukebox. Silver Stallion was reminiscent of her earlier song, You Are Free. The main focus of the song is about stealing a silver stallion, but there’s a gambling reference in the following lyrics – “And we’re gonna ride/Ride like the one eyed Jack of Diamonds with the devil close behind.”

Jimmy Eat World – Big Casino

The video for Big Casino shows the band playing with faded casino signs around them, which fit with the song’s general theme. Lyrics that bring in the gambling theme include “I’ll accept with poise, with grace/When they draw my name from the lottery”.
