Beady Eye has announced on their official site that guitarist Gem Archer has been hospitalized with severe head trauma following an accident that occurred the evening of Thursday, August 1. Reports say he is in stable condition, but he remains in hospital under observation at present. Fellow band member Andy Bell offered his support to Archer on Twitter. ‘Wanna wish my brother @gemarcherbe a speedy recovery X,’ read his August 3 tweet.
In light of this terrible news, this week’s Beady Eye shows previously scheduled for Belgium and Japan have been cancelled. Their official website states, ‘They are very sorry for any disappointment this will cause but as Gem is an integral part of the band there is no way that they can play without him. An update on Gem’s condition will follow.’
The band were slated to appear at yesterday’s Lokerse Festival in Belgium, and then they were to head to Japan for the Summer Sonic in Toyko on Saturday, August 10. The band remain on the bill for this year’s V Festival, the band’s next scheduled appearance, on August 17. It is still unclear whether they will be able to honor that engagement.
Beady Eye’s tragic news is an added concern to Liam Gallagher, whose tumultuous private life is currently very public. He is reportedly suing The New York Post for libel after they alleged that he impregnated an American journalist, Liza Ghorbani, in 2010 while still married to former All Saints singer Nicole Appleton. These harsh revelations have apparently taken a toll on his marriage, and it has been reputed that their five-year marriage is on thin ice. The couple have a 12 year-old son named Gene. Gallagher has two older children from previous relationships. Meanwhile, a first child support case occurred in court on July 26. Ghorbani is reportedly claiming £2 million for child support for their daughter Emma, who was born last January.
